[nabs-l] a question about getting lost

That needs to stop too! The only time I see my aid anymore is at
the beginning of the day and in classes like science (my TVI
works with me in math) when we're doing something visual which
she needs to describe or help me with the tactile graphics. I do
admit, tactile graphics are not my strong suit; not even close!
But I'm getting better with them. I have been very lucky to have
an aid who has my back while also wanting me to be independent
and doing whatever she can to help me become
more independent. She has gradually stepped back from
assisting me in school, to the point that now her main role is
that of Braille transcriber.

real problem is the misunderstanding and lack of education that
exists. If a blind person has the proper training and
opportunity, blindness can be reduced to a mere physical
nuisance."

LOL I really should do that! My aide doesn't follow me around as
much as he watches where I go.

Does your aide still follow you around? If so, that needs to
stop. By the
time that I was in high school, I only saw my aide at the
beginning of the
day and the end of the day. The next time that someone tells you
not to read
the Braille on a door, tell them not to read the print on it.

Hi,
I am doing a pretty good job navigating my high-school campus.
I hardly
ever get lost, but I used to more often when I began.
I had a question: is it a big deal when you get lost, but find
your way
COMPLETELY on your own?
I'm emphasizing this because my aide used to always get mad at
me when I
got lost, even if I found my way using my skills. One time he
got upset
because I was checking a room number on a door, but I needed to
know what
the room number was in order to get where I was going. He
treats getting
lost and finding my own way just as badly as getting lost and
needing lots
of help. Is this right?
