[nabs-l] pdf's read aloud in acrobat speech rate issue

I normally use zoom but decided I want to use speech output for some of my
texts.

I am using acrobat professional x on Mac OS Mavericks.

I tried to change the speech rate in the preferences menu and it does not
seem to change it at all. The default was 220. I set it to 500 and hear no
difference. Do I need to change any other settings. I do not have mac voice
over enabled.
