Hello Ryan,
To answer your first question, update to the newest update to Yosemite. They have fixed this. to answer your second question, no, there is no language detection. You will have to switch to the different voices.

For some reason, it shuts off the keyboard and I am unable to input anything until I restart the computer. Does anyone know why this might be and how to fix it? Secondly, is there any way to get Voiceover on the mac to speak words written in a different script in the appropriate language as it does on the iPhone? When I read Hebrew or Greek, for example, I have to switch the voices, which is normally fine while reading lengthy text, but if I have a contacts name written in Hebrew, I would rather it pronounced the name of the person in Hebrew as it does on the phone instead of reading me the individual Hebrew letters or Greek letters in English. Anyone know how to make it do this? In JAWS, there was a feature where you could change the pronunciation of certain words to their original language through the pronunciation dictionary, but I cannot see a way to do this in the Voiceover pronunciation dictionary. Any thoughts? Thanks all.
