I'll second what david said mostly.
You'll want at least 8 gb, 16 is probably overkill. My tablet has 8
and I do some fairly intensive work.
I3 is pretty cheap but you will not get the same performance. Having
seen the size of some law books, you'll want more processing power to
parse and read them. I recommend the i5. This will also help Jaws and
make everything generally faster.
Also as david said, you will need a 64 bit system. It's generally
quicker and will allow you to address higher than 3.something gb ram
(PAE included).
