Hi Michaela, this is actually a known problem with the TI 84 talking calculator. At least, I've had this problem when trying to show my students how to use it find the zeros of a parabola. You can do everything you need to you to set up the problem, but then once the zeros are calculated, it doesn't read anything on the screen. I don't understand why this feature is missing, but I recommend that you email the company. I have sent them a similar email, and hopefully if they get enough feedback from us they will release an update.
