Also, where possible choose an activity to devote to the process, such as only read Twitter in Braille, or type your grocery or to do list at top speed. Make them low priority tasks so you can practice but errors won't count against you.
With Braille specifically, learn to read two handed if you can as it can improve speed greatly.
Here are a few articles that might help.

Hi! It takes a lot of practice, I would devote some time outside of school each evening to practicing, that way you can improve your speed over time. For example you could set a timer for three minutes and see how many words you can read/right in that time, and keep doing this over time and see if you improve. I'm having kind of the same issue with my slate and stylus practice for my braille class but I know I will be able to become more proficient in this overtime. I hope that helps and if you have any other questions please let us know.

Hi all,
I hope this message finds you all well and enjoying your second day of
school. I have a couple of questions regarding reading and spelling. I am
quite a slow braille reader and was wondering if anyone has any tips for
improving that? I am also having a hard time keeping-up in class because of
my poor spelling what tips would you give on how to get better in that? My
last question is about tips for improving my typing speed. I have gotten
faster over the years but I know people who type quite fast and being able
to do that would be wonderful.
Thanks all,
Nesma
