The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can have the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.

Make a gift to the National Federation of the Blind and help ensure all blind Americans live the lives they want.

Subject: [nabs-l] question about quotation marks in word

Hello all,

I'm writing a novel in MS Word, and a sighted friend just pointed out that whenever I have an m-dash followed by a quotation mark, like when a speaker is cut off midsentence, word changes the quotation mark from a right quotation mark to a left quotation mark. So my question is this: Is there a way to have JAWS tell me which direction a quotation mark is pointing so I can fix this? And also is there an easy way to change the direction of the quotation mark/prevent word from flipping it?

Thanks for your help!

Jameyanne
