[nabs-l] Common app accessibility

Hi Mausam,

I'm in a similar boat with application deadlines fast approaching. For the most part, I was able to fill out all of the Common App without visual assistance, but there are a few weird quirks. I use a Mac with Voiceover. Sometimes when I would try to select an option (like a major or activity category), I couldn't select it. I learned that you can get around that by typing the selection you want word for word in the search box. (I'm hoping that made sense. The Common App layout is hard to describe to someone not familiar with it). I also had to be careful to make sure the wrong radio buttons didn't accidentally get selected. The only part I really can't do on my own is the review and submit process. The final application preview is not accessible, but that orked out fine, because I wanted other pairs of eyes to proofread everything anyway.

Good luck on the rest of your college process, and Happy New Year!
Emmie

Along the way, I have encountered a few accessibility issues with the common app. They haven't been catastrophic; just inconveniences that require a pair of eyes here and there. I'm curious to know if any of you have had any trouble with it, and if you have found any interesting workarounds.
