[nabs-l] Braille Displays and Notetakers

I tried out a BrailleNote touch at last year's convention. I see no point to it--if I want to use a touch screen I will use an IPAD and stick with a much more portable braille display. That resolves the issues with regard to Windows CE, etc. Then again, I transitioned from Perkins to slate in the sixth grade and did not own a braille input device until college. I am certain this colors my perspective greatly.

Unfortunately, though, the Windows CE platform that most note takers are based on now, will be going away. It is comparative to Internet Explorer and is antiquated. The Braille Note Touch is on a deprecated form of Android 4.4. The Polaris is coming in with Android 5 Lollipop and is updatable, smaller, and with touch sensors so one can navigate with touch screen gestures.

Hi Bobby thanks for your message. I own a BrailleNote Apex with a thirty-two cell braille display. The Florida Division of Blind Services purchased this device for me before I started college in August of 2011. I chose to ask my counselor to purchase this piece of equipment because of my previous experiences with the BrailleNote family of products from Humanware.
