[nabs-l] Braille Displays and Notetakers

Hello all,
I want to make it clear that I am asking this out of ignorance, and not because I have anything against special braille notetaker's… But what's the point of buying one of them when these days there are so many mainstream devices that are accessible? Both iOS and android devices can be used by blind people, including phones, tablets, and everything in between. There are also Bluetooth keyboards, Bluetooth braille keyboards, and Bluetooth braille displays available that one can connect to these devices, so it's hard for me to justify spending thousands of dollars on a braille notetaker. I am saying all of this from a theoretical point of you, since I haven't had a chance to try any of the notetakers currently available. It seems like some of them aren't compatible with all websites, everyone's in a while people say they have trouble opening some kinds of attachments with them, etc. etc. But what are the advantages? For those of you who use a braille notetaker why do you prefer it over a regular laptop or iOS device?
This is a really interesting topic!
