JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The South Carolina Commission for the Blind helps blind or visually impaired residents of South Carolina gain independence and identify their strengths, abilities, skills, and resources to obtain employment. The commission provides adjustment-to-blindness training and job-placement services for thousands of South Carolinians each year.

The Prevention of Blindness Counselor determines eligibility, as outline in the SCCB Prevention of Blindness Program policies and procedures manual, and coordinates services accordingly for the blind and visually impaired.

MINIMUM AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor's degree and professional experience in human services or social services programs. Agency requirements: A master's degree in social work, human services, rehabilitation counseling, or a related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in healthcare and/or prevention services is highly desirable. 

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: 

Considerable knowledge of social services and individuals with disabilities. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public. The location of this position is located at the Greenville District Office. Occasional overnight travel is required for training, seminars, consumer activities, ect.
