[NABS-L] Invitation: Audio Description seminar

Dear all,

I would like to personally invite you to Stanford University’s first
audio description seminar. We will be meeting virtually tomorrow at
3:30 PM Pacific, 6:30 PM Eastern, to hear from Dr. Joel Snyder and
others, who will discuss the applications of audio description in
journalism and other fields.

Dr. Joel Snyder is widely recognized as the pioneer of American audio
description. He now works with the Audio Description Project, and has
described everything from movies to museums, from national parks to
the inauguration of President Barack Obama.

As background, audio description is a means by which blind and
visually impaired persons may gain an understanding of visual
elements. Audio description has mainly been applied to entertainment
media, but is applicable to charts and data, lectures and
presentations, and anything involving visual elements that would not
be immediately available to the blind and visually impaired. Most
importantly to my career, audio description can be applied to
journalism and news media. This is why I have arranged for Dr. Snyder
and two of his associates to illuminate us via a virtual seminar.
