Subject: FYI: Research on experiencing aquariums with a visual impairment
Please share with other lists to get feedback for this college student:

A senior at Wentworth contacted me about her senior thesis, which is related to how people with a visual impairment experience aquariums. She is collecting feedback for her project and I said that I would pass it along to others who might have some input. Her deadline is Friday --- so whatever anyone who has feedback can do, that will be helpful.

Email from the student at Wentworth below:

Good morning,

My name is Brie DuMont, I am a senior Industrial Design student at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston and am currently working on my senior thesis. I picked this project because I am very much interested in exhibit design and experience-based design, and I did a project last year for a Human Factors class that was based around different impairments, one of them being visual, and how that can affect design choices. When I was researching for this project I found there was a lack of major inclusion for people with visual impairments in experience design at places such as aquariums, zoos, and museums. I ended up narrowing it down to just aquariums as that seemed to offer more opportunities and I have connections to the marine biology world.

The answers to the survey will be used in my research presentation, and I am collecting the Names, Ages, and Visual Impairment levels (however the person would like to best describe it) of the people who take the survey. The rest of the questions all pertain to what makes things easier to interact with, favorite/least favorite textures, best forms of communications, and then their experiences with aquariums (such as favorite/least favorite parts, what they wish they could interact with more, and anything they wish they could add to an aquarium). I may not use every participant's individual answers, especially if I get a bunch of responses, the answers may just be used in graphs/statistics, but I will most likely pull a few individual answers to highlight details that may be important to where I take this project or that highlight something I may not have thought of/seen in my research. If anyone is uncomfortable putting their Name/Age they could just put Jane/John Doe and N/A for the age, I would prefer if they could describe their level of visual impairment, either by describing it themselves or using legal/doctor terms whichever is best for them.

The deadline would be by Friday (March 25th). Link to online survey about Experiencing Aquariums with a Visual Impairment<https://forms.gle/vWhr4UnnRybE4gju8>

Aquarium & Visual Impairment Survey<https://forms.gle/vWhr4UnnRybE4gju8>
Hello! This survey is intended to gather data on how those with visual impairments experience Aquariums, and examining these visual/educational based areas in general. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to clarify before answering a question. You can email me at dumontb at wit.edu<mailto:dumontb at wit.edu>
