Good morning Julia.
My name is Justin Heard, and I am the president of the Massachusetts
student division. We are so excited that you will be in our state!
Like many states, the VR experience depends on your counselor and their
supervisor. I have had positive experiences so far. I am a graduate
student, so my funding looks different from what yours would be. MCB
pays up to 16000 dollars a year for graduate students. If you would
like, I can forward your email to a MCB supervisor and see what he says.
I also encourage you to subscribe to the Massachusetts email list and
ask your question there.
We also have a WhatsApp group for blind students. If you would like to
join, send me an email and I will send you the link. This would be
another great place to ask your question.
I hope this is helpful. We hope to see you in our WhatsApp group and at
future events.

My vocational rehabilitation counselor just told me that I should maybe look into opening a VR case in Massachusetts, but I would like to know a bit more information about the services they offer. For example, I would like to compare their college sponsorship to Michigan’s. In Michigan, vocational rehabilitation pays for 75% of roo room and board, and for the first two years they pay community college tuition rates. for junior and senior year, they pay the highest in-state public tuition, the University of Michigan right now. Can anyone tell me how Massachusetts policies compare? How supportive and helpful is VR in Massachusetts generally?
