[NABS-L] NJABS Virtual Movie Night: All Are Invited!

Hi Everyone,

The New Jersey Association of Blind Students (NJABS) is thrilled to invite
you all to our first ever virtual movie night. Join us on Sunday, June 23
from 6PM to 8PM Eastern Time for the viewing on Zoom of CRIP CAMP: A
Disability Revolution. This documentary, released in 2020 and co-produced
by former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, outlines
the true story of a group of teenagers with physical disabilities who come
together in the wake of the disability rights movement some 50 years ago.

 Join us to learn about the ordinary people who made extraordinary strides
to advocate for disability rights. Together, we will watch history
unfold. As described by Netflix, this documentary features “a
groundbreaking summer camp for teens with disabilities proves so inspiring
that a group of its alumni join the disability rights movement to advocate
for historic legislation changes”.

One such camper was Judith Heumann, who became a friend of the Federation.
At the time of her death in 2023, she was known as the “Mother of the
Disability Civil Rights Movement.” Her legacy lives on through the powerful
legislation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) The film is
audio-described and has closed captioning.
