The scanner just takes a picture of the page. You still need software to control the scanner, and extract the text, OCR.

Most scanners come bundled with something, or have a coupon to get something at reduced cost.

My apologies for the late response, I am referring to a page scanner that uses software to operate the scanner not an optical character recognition.
