Subject: [nagdu] My new GPS

I just bought GPS to go with my new Braillenote. I'm still learning to
use it, but yesterday I went out for a walk with it. It's nippy here,
around freezing, which Ben found invigorating. He stuck his tail up in
the air and went full steam ahead. The GPS seemed to have a little
trouble keeping up. I guess it doesn't check position constantly. At one
point, I turned, crossed the street, and turned again. About 50 feet
later, it said that I had turned, then a couple seconds later it was the
second turn. That was a bit odd.
About 180 feet from each intersection, it told me the name of the street I
was coming to. It also pointed out T intersections, which was
interesting. It pointed out some businesses I passed that I never knew
were there.
It pointed out our local diner, about 15 feet past the door. It also said
other businesses on our main street, but by no means all of them. I told
my husband that, and he laughed. He said, the speed Ben goes, it would be
constantly chattering as we zoomed past places. That makes sense. I
think maybe I'd have to pick a store and set it as a destination.
I had set my driveway as a point of interest, but, by the time it said
"Home", I'd undressed Ben and he'd found 2 perfect spots to relieve
himself. That too might have worked better as a destination.
Anyway, it was interesting, and I'll have to keep experimenting. I'm
hoping I can use it a bit while I'm visiting my sister, just so I can go
for a bit of a walk without getting lost.
Of course, in a new place, and not getting a lot of exercise, Ben will
probably be boogying. I'd better have a Plan B!

If anyone else has used GPS with a dog, I'd be interested to hear about
it. I understand one has to be careful not to keep stopping to check
things, as the dog finds that confusing.
Tracy
