Hi Dan;
Rotties have wide, square heads and muzzles. Their ears are set high and are 
triangular in shape  rather than long and floppy. I'd call it 'stocky'. 
Also, the forehead ascends sharpely from the muzzle  rather than  sloping 
gently to the top of the head. That's why it is described as square.
