[nagdu] NAGDU and the Policy on Ownership

My question would be, what issue would we be asking the members to decide?

Would we be stating that we "condemn and deplore" schools that don't provide
ownership upon graduation? Would we be asking schools to consider offering
grads ownership upon completion of their programs? Would we be urging
schools to be transparent with potential clients about their policies?

What do you have in mind, Marion?

For me, the criteria that were most important when I chose schools changed
between my first and second dogs. I don't expect they will change much from
here on out, but I could be wrong. I think the two things that top my list
are ownership and excellent traffic training. While in-home training would
have been nice, I felt that Seeing Eye's approach to traffic was more in
line with what I wanted.

The more I think about this, the more I am certain that traffic training is
actually what really does top my list. If School A provided excellent
traffic training but retained ownership for a period of time, and School B
gave immediate ownership but was not as complete in their traffic training,
I'd probably go with School A. (I don't know what I'd do if school A
retained ownership throughout the dog's working life; in that instance, I'd
probably try to find money to hire a trainer.)

I don't mean to imply that other schools don't have good traffic training;
but I will say that TSE's approach to traffic was one of the reasons I chose
the school. They also had the breed I hoped to get for my next dog.

Well, I am going to listen to the interview. Perhaps I'll better understand
the question after I do that.

Best,

Angie

Marion,
What's wrong with leaving it up to personal preference?
Why must everybody be forced to embrace the majority opinion as policy?
Look what happened with the issue of dogs and our training centers. I
believe, as I expressed at the time, the NFB was not well served by forcing
this issue.
JMHO.

Susan,
Perhaps I misspoke about it being "policy". Interviews are pretty
spontaneous and sometimes words don't come out the exact way they should.
Perhaps, though, we should introduce a resolution to let the convention of
the NFB decide this issue. What do the other members think?
