Hi Gary,
I'd ask why you would prefer a Lab/Poodle cross, the proper name for a dog
that's half Lab and half Poodle btw, over a pure bred Poodle?
GDF does not use Lab/Poodles at this time, though we may bring them back at
some point. We had a lot of issues with the stock we had and found that many
of them became quite suspicious of other dogs or people after a few years of
work, mine included.
I will say, having had one for 3 years, that they are bright, intense dogs.
They are very much like German Shepherds in their awareness of their
environments. They do shed, some more than others, but they do have a
different dander that is not as allergy producing as pure Labs or other
breeds. My girl shed a fair amount while one of her sisters who lives in a
southern climate, does not.
When the Lab/Poodle is well balanced, it is an incredible dog but often,
they do tend to pick up on stress or become out of balance easily. My girl
is now a happy pet but extremely protective of her family.
