Mike,
Perhaps, if you decide to take a nap while in flight, others would be
more than happy you carried it on! (smile)

Peter,
I should say that the subject has never come up. I use a pretty small
machine. The only thing they require is to swab it if I carry it on board.
The airlines have never made carrying the CPAP an issue. TSA merely wishes
to check it out. CPAP machines have gotten fairly small and cause no great
difficulty.
Since it is not a breathing machine used during flight it does not come
under any special respiratory equipment exenptions needed during the flight.

Hello Mike and listers,
I just tell them it's a breathing machine or a medical device and that
usually ends the discussion. I'd suggest downloading and printing out copies
of their policies regarding the carriage of medical equipment and medication
and have it with you when you fly. If they see that it came from their own
Web site you should have an easier time of being able to take it on with you
or checking it through free of charge. I've done this on several airlines
without any trouble.

Hi,
I have never had success getting them to waive my CPAP. Sorry.

Mike,
Do you know if there are any waivers for medical equipment? I need to
carry my CPAP when I travel and it takes up a lot of room and adds to the
weight of the baggage.
fraternally,
Marion

Liz,
There is no rule about whether airlines will charge for baggage if you have
food and service animal related goods inside. When I have told the airlines
that my luggage is heavier due to such things they have dropped the charges.

Hi Marion,
Sorry, I've been gone and am catching up on mail.
I think having the cards is a great idea.
Also, I heard that if we have items in our luggage pertaining to our service
animals, such as grooming equipment, food and so forth, that we should not
pay the fees to check bags.
Does anyone know if it is true?
Thanks and take care all.
Now, getting ready to head to New Jersey for the Seeing Eye reunion.
