[nagdu] Service Animals in Health Care Failities

Cindy,
At one time, it was a "rule of thumb" that Intensive Care and
psychiatric units could deny access to a service animal; however, this is
not the current guidance on this issue. The ADA requires that an entity
must demonstrate that the presence of a service animal poses a direct threat
to the health or safety of another that cannot be mitigated by a
modification of policies, practices, and procedures. I have written a
detailed model policy for health care facilities that is in the process of
legal and scientific review. I am hoping it will be ready for release within
the next couple of weeks. When it is, it will be shared with the entire
membership.

Fraternally yours,
Marion
