Lisa,
    In my humble opinion, not using a cane considerably limits one's 
options. A dog is not always the best option and, in those cases, without a 
means of indpendent travel, it is severely restricting.

thank you for all of your thoughts on this matter.  The reason that I asked 
is that what if something happened to your dog and you couldn't work him or 
her.  As far as I am concerned I really wouldn't mind if the dang thing just 
got mysteriously run over by a car and was shattered into a thousand pieces. 
So I will stay no cane for as long as I can help it.
