[nagdu] statistics on service animals

Dear Angie,

Thanks for posting the actual quote from the article.  It did nmake 
it to the list!

We know there are approximately 11,000 guide dogs working in the U.S. 
This figure is based on material obtained from the training programs, 
adding some for owner trained and subtracting more for teams trained 
in the U.S. and living outside the country.

For the rest, it is a guess, pure and simple!  However, Assistance 
Dogs International collects statistics from their member training 
programs.  I've used those figures for the estimates of hearing and 
service dogs.  ADI program graduates represent only a portion of 
hearing and service dogs, since many currently working in the U.S. 
are owner trained.
