[nagdu] My new dog

Yes, I'm not sure about other breeds as much, since my last three have been
labs, but they seem to start their wag just behind the nose. From my
experience that's a pretty common state for them.

Yep, Abbie does that. Her body's always wiggling too.

Yes, Lexia is a black lab in every way possible. She has that bouncy lab

legs stay on the ground, but the front feet goo up and down together?

Nicole,

I have forgotten, is Lexia a lab? Belle is and today she turned 8 years old.

I say that she is 8 going on 3. I love that exuberance or puppy spirit. My

first lab lived to be 15 years old and still had the heart to run and play

even if his body couldn't quite do it. I hope that I retain the attitude of

enthusiasm and joie de vivre as long as a live.

A word about puppy hood: They do settle in a little, but some of it seems to

never go away. Lexia is 3 years, 9 months, but has not grown out of some of

her puppy habits, at least not yet anyways.

Ted,

Congratulations on your new dog! Once the puppyhood is over, he will

settle in nicely!

I can give you a word about turnstyles. The biggest challenge with them

is getting the leash through without getting it hung up! Otherwide, the dog

can walk through the mechanism by going underneath it while heeling. HTH!

Keep us up-to-date on Cruise's progress!

Fraternally yours,

Marion

Hello all,

I have been home just over a week now with my new guide, Cruz, from

the GDB Oregon campus. Cruz is a beautiful yellow lab and an

excellent (though not

perfect!) guide. He is undoubtedly a perfect companion and we are

getting on very, very well. He is my first guide and I'm very happy to

have him.

I've been taking him all over town and he does great, but has a

tendency to get distracted and start sniffing around. He is also very

fond of everyone and is all to ready to jump all over people given

half a chance. But those are pretty minor things, at least to me, and

in general his guide work is very good.

Our next big challenge will be a trip into New York City, as I live

nearby.

I have a couple of concerns on that - getting him through subway

turnstiles and also finding a reasonable place to relieve him. If

there are any New Yorkers out there who might have suggestions I would

be grateful.

Ted
