[nagdu] Do's and Don't's

All I can say in response to this is that puke happen and s** happens. 
And, if you have any tips for people to teach their dogs how to wake
them up so they can get outside before the poop hits the carpet, I'm
sure we'd all love them. 
Either that, or you have an exit door ajoining your bedroom. Not all of
us do.

I am rather surprised to hear that those with dogs who have been sick at
home or on trips in hotels, the dog didn't try to wake you up?  All of
my dogs are very well house trained and any time they are ill, their 1st
line of attack is to try to wake me up or get my attention somehow.  I
am most of the time at night in a medication induced stupor since I've
got insomnia and otherwise don't sleep, and still my dogs wake me up
enough to get them outside and not sick on the rug.

 

2 of my dogs sleep on the bed and 2 sleep in crates.  One because he's
still a puppy and gets into trouble and the other because he's an
insomniac an doesn't settle well at night unless crated.  James gets bed
privileges because he has earned them over the years.  The 1st behavior
though is no bed or furniture privileges, until the dog has learned
'off' very well and then when they have proven they know the rules, they
can get up on the couch or the bed with permission.  The funny thing is
though that most of my dogs prefer the floor or the dog bed to the
couch.  During the day James'
favorite spot is on the hardwood at my feet under my computer desk.
Either that or under the coffee table or the spare crate in the living
room.

 

When we travel to a hotel, I either bring his soft sided crate that is
collapsible to the size of a dinner plate or I bring an extra sheet or 2
for the bed.
