Viola has to greet every person that walks in the door. she does not do
this calmly or gracefully; she insists on jumping on people and acting
completely obnoxiously. She doesn't jump if I have her on leash, so
unless I'm standing over I can correct her in time for it to count. She
will run from any room in the house to jump the people at the door. I
don't mind her greeting people if she could just wait to get in the door
and stay on all four paws.
Jordan and Viola "to Friendly for anyone to handle"

It's not off topic at all! I will admit that my current guide in training
is also guilty of this. He is improving, but it is still a work in
progress. What I have done is to put him in his crate when someone comes to
the door. He is very good about going in his kennel on command. All I
really need to do is shut the door. Then I let the person in. If it is
appropriate I will let Monty out of his crate and keep him on leash. I only
take him as far as he can handle. If he begins to get very excited we stay
put or back up until he regains composure. I might also have him sit, down
or hand target to help him stay calm and remember his manners. I keep doing
this until we are in the same room with the guest. If he is calm and I
trust the guest not to get him wound back up I will let him off leash. He
is then allowed to greet calmly. I might also let him greet still on leash
if I think either Monty or the guest might get too exuberant.

This method has shown the best results in the shortest amount of time for
me. There are certainly other ways of dealing with overenthusiastic
greeting behavior. Personally I haven't found corrections to be very
effective.
