[nagdu] Barking

Does any one know how the puppy raisers teach the dogs not to bark?  I am curious because for 10 years now I have been trying to teach Shiloh to bark when someone rings the doorbell, but I wasn't successful.  

She hasn't barked 20 times in the 10 years that I have had her.
