Subject: [nagdu] introduction and announcement

Hello:

My name is Lolly Lijewski, and I've just joined this listserv. I'm
currently working with my fifth Seeing Eye Dog. She is a black Lab named
Brook.

I want to pass on some information about a new business and an upcoming
workshop.

ANNOUNCEMENT

GUIDEBROOK PRODUCTIONS INTRODUCTORY OFFER!

GuideBrook Productions (GBP) www.guidebrookproductions.com
<http://www.guidebrookproductions.com/> will offer a free workshop via
conference calling service (you need only travel to the nearest telephone)
on Saturday, September 12, from 2 P.M. to 3:15 P.M. central daylight time.
The topic is an update on Positive Training in guide work.

Participants will include instructors from Guide Dogs For The Blind and
others.

What is Positive Training?

Positive Training is a philosophy and methodology of training dogs, that
includes clicker training. It employs techniques such as operant and
classical conditioning. Operant conditioning was developed by Behaviorist
B.f. Skinner in the 1950's. Behaviorist and Ethologist Karen Prior adopted
Skinner's techniques and coined the term clicker training when she trained
dolphins in the 1960's.

To find out more about Positive Training check out these links:

Clicker Solutions: Melissa Alexander has compiled an extensive library of
articles and interviews on clicker training. She is the author of "Click
For Joy."

This site gives a broader definition of Positive Training, and suggests
several books on the topic.

Victoria Stilwell from the hit Animal Planet show, "It's Me Or The Dog,"
uses Positive Training to problem solve with out-of-control pets-and their
owners. She believes that to train positively, you must learn how to "Think
dog."
