Julie,
I have attended an ACB Convention when it was in Tampa. After attending
several NFB convention, I was expecting something very different. It didn't
seem like much more than a large state convention! The general sessions were
very sparsely attended and the exhibit hall was very small.
As for working together, though it sounds like a great idea and I have
been asked many times why we don't, nearly always with the assertion, "We're
all working for the same thing!". Unfortunately, this is not so! NAC, ACB,
and many of the agencies are not working for the same thing the NFB is
working for. As per my previous message containing former President Edwards
article, the ACB has no specific initiatives, no philosophy to guide their
work, and no real structure binding their different parts together. Sure, it
would be nice for the ACB to work for real change with the NFB, but that
will be their choice. Their whole purpose in existence is to be a rubber
stamp for the agencies, not an independent voice for the blind. HTH!

Fraternally yours,
Marion
