But think about how forward thinking all of the gizmos and such on that show
are now really tools we use or have become reliant on/. just stop amd list
all the things and one scratches their head and wonders what is next on the
horizon.

If you do not think of your life in terms of Star Trek metaphors, what good
are you? /grin/

Every now and then, the plot will require Geordi to be blind and unable to
deal because something has screwed up his visor. I never noticed that
before, but we're watching reruns, and now and I do, and it makes me mad.

Yes, but he gets wicked headaches from the visor. How sick is it that I
know this stuff?

Just goes to show you that jordi has options and can choose to use or
not
use his seeing device should he care to. again, it is all about options
to
open as many people to the world as think it to be dark and lonely. Many
many blind people do see things that way, I am just happy to know we are
not
amongst them.

Yes, this was my take too. Marketing gimmick combined with something
that might be useful. I guess focusing on the way this device would be
used isn't as flashy?
I do find it interesting that if you read Star Trek closely, Geordi
spends much of his time with his visor off. Does make you think.

Thanks Tami.
"Rays of hope in a world of darkness?" When are we going to get past
this
crap? Amazing! The girl can find a fork in her kitchen! Gosh, however
did I manage to make breakfast this morning without this wonderful
device!
And people using it to go rock-climbing! Um, don't lots of students at
the Colorado Center go rock-climbing without some high-tech device?

Not picking on you Albert; you have no control over what reporters say,
and it would certainly be useful to be able to locate objects I dropped
without having to paw around on the floor for them, but I just can't
see
such a thing changing my life in a major way. Maybe I'm just too
well-adapted to my terrible dark world.

Now, if I could use it to read signs quickly, or price-tags, or tell if
the walk-sign was on, that might actually be useful. With quickly being
the important word.
