[nagdu] a couple questions

Cindy, having lived in eastern Ontario and Calgary, I know all about that
nasty smooth slick ice. Indeed, you are mostly correct. However, depending
on how and when spring arrives, sidewalks In Winnipeg can get slick almost
beyond belief. This is not so much due to freezing rain but the freeze/melt
cycle of accumulated snow which may have been around since early November.
In Manitoba, what I think of as true spring, (daytime temperatures above 35
US in the daytime) may arrive any time from mid march to mid April.
The problem of course with snow accumulation and cold is that the stuff
never gets absolutely cleared away but rather packs down into something
seriously hard. This is not the fault of for example, the snow-clearing
equipment but the difficulty of scraping down to the cement due to the
possibility of damaging both the sidewalk plough and curbs and sidewalks.
So, for a new dog, stopping exactly at curbs can be virtually impossible.
You'll understand that this situation, plus having to wear serious head-ear
protection could cause one to become two-dimensional if:
A one allows their attention to slack. Even after 35 years of dogdum, I've
had close calls, saved either by my own quickness or my dog seeing what I
simply didn't hear.
2. Inattentive drivers say, fiddling with some electronic device while
eating a chemical-laden breakfast, shaving, doing their make-up either
individually or in various combinations.
So, I'm glad if New Jersey gets some serious winter since my new dot will
then face less challenges on returning to a place we lovingly call
winterpeg. That blindman's fog (snow) can be a real challenge.
Doug: feeling a little flaky.
