I've never read Maggie by My Side. Does anyone know the author?

I remember Maggie by my Side. I liked it because the author actually
talked about having problems with her dog when she got home. It wasn't
the usual story about the perfect dog; you know, the one I never seem to
get. For ages I wondered why my dogs weren't like the ones in the books.
