New York rocks!  Oregon does not.  Sigh.  /grin/

I still say she's worth it.  There have been a few times my pocket book has
argued the point, what what I say goes! /grin/

Concerning expenses, here in new york state, individuals on SSI are entitled
to a monthly stipend of $45 per month to off set food costs. Then there are
certain veterinarian clinics that offer medical attention for all sorts of
service animals gratis. Not sure where you live but if it is new york, that
is one less cost to consider, and if you inquire with the schools you might
consider going to for a guide, they might better advise you on supports
available state by state. Do not give up.

Mark, as a parent, I can tell you that it isn't easy to let go. Since you
are still living in their home it is probably not wise to push this issue
too far. The decision is and will ultimately be yours. Having said that,
there are expenses and responsibilities involved in having a dog which you
yourself must be in a position to handle. If your parents are not in favor
of you getting a dog they are not likely to want to foot the bill in any way
or undertake any of the responsibilities. It's not all bad to go to college
and demonstrate your ability to get around campus and show how mature and
responsible you are before getting a dog. I didn't get mine until after my
freshman year in college.

My mom claims to be terrified of dogs, but yet we have a pet dog.  My 
parents claim that a guide dog will smell, then I point out that if you take

care of it properly it won't. Then I point out people we know with guide 
dogs that don't smell. My dad's response to this is to tell this story of 
his friend's son's roommate's friend had a roommate with a smelly guide dog.

This happened so long ago, and is so far removed from the situation that I 
can't see how it possibly has any bearing on the current situation. Also 
that story is so convoluted that is impossible to verify. And the argument 
goes on and on Ad nauseam. It is getting to the point that I think they are 
just attempting to exorcize there ability to make arbitrary decisions.
