[nagdu] guide dogs

Hi Jennifer,

I have two cats. They have the run of the house. Or I should say that they
allow us to use their house. We have placed their cat box and their food in
our laundry room. The cat box is one that has a lid on it and a hole for the
cats to go into the box. We bought this when we had to arrange the cat box
in a different location but like it because it cover the box which helps to
block some of the smell and it also protects from accidental dropping of
items from above. The cat box happens to fit under a shelving unit which we
built so that their continuous feeding and watering dishes are on a fairly
wide shelf above and above that we have a shelf for laundry soap and
baskets. Above that we have a cabinet with doors where we store other
supplies. We have fitted the laundry room door with a cat door. If you
haven't seen one, they create an area where a swinging flap is suspended so
that the cats can push against it and go in or out through the hole. These
doors can be locked if you need to keep the cat in the room for a while. We
also have one of those doors in one of our bedrooms because the cats always
wanted to go in and sleep with our daughter. This gave us more sleep and
saved our door from scratches. When I give the cats their treats in the
evening along with my dog after his/her last walk of the day, I give them
their treats on a higher surface such as a counter so that my dog doesn't
have access to their treats. Our cats and dog will lie on the carpet
together and get along just fine. All of the dog guide schools can assist
you with tips on how to introduce the cats and dogs, or any other pet in
your home so that they can get along. It is done gradually so that the
animals get a chance to understand that the other is not a threat. The old
myth that dogs and cats cannot get along is just that, a myth.

I was just wondering because I know someone who has a guide dog, and she
keeps the cat's food, water, and litter box in a big container. She puts a
hole in it so that the cat can get in it.
