When Paul Carver moved from Concord, NH, to Hayward, CA, he was assaulted at 
a bus stop by a policeman who thought the folding cane he was opening was a 
weapon. The cop took him down.

Paul had been president of the Concord, NH, chapter while finishing his AS 
degree at the Concord Technical College. He then went on to do a BS degree 
at Hayward State College, about 25 miles SE from San Francisco. He now lives 
in Sacramento, CA.

He and the local NFB chapter gave orientating talks to the local police 
department afterwards.

I usually try to get together with him and his wife, Georgia, at NFB 
conventions.
