[nagdu] Japanese guide dog teamsRE: My dream is gone

How sweet, indeed. I love to see (or peceive) a toddler, watching me the
cane, then kinda feeling my hand on it, then, very, very seriously, taking
it and tapping it out in front them with the little brow furrowed in
concentration ... Well, random toddlers and little kids do an abbreviated
version, but the former next door neighbor toodler I still see now and then
has done a pretty good job of figuring the thing out and how it works for
me, although every time she takes it -- or takes my hand on it to guide me
when I visit their house -- I can just tell she's learning more.

She's still a bit baffled when Mitzi is working and the cane is folded up in
my back pocket, I think. She much prefers when we're off leash at the park,
and she can give Mitzi stern orders (Nini! Shee!) then dig treats out of my
pocket to give Mitzi once I've translated the command into it's proper
format (Mitzi, sit). /lol/ I just have to say it in a very low tone, so
the kiddo gets a total kick out of the whole thing. Mitzi always seems to
know exactly what's going on and to be as amused by it as I am. I can swear
she rolls her eyes, though, every time she hears a piping, yet stern voice
say, "Nini! Shee!"). Too cool for words.

Lol on the gal holding the guy's belt loop.
How are things?
Linda's posts have gotten weirder by the minute.
Mellie took her cane to school today so she could "use it all day like
Mommy" So sweet.

Interesting about the Asian lady.
It doesn't surprise me having been in Japan and seeing similar
couples--smile.
I also did meet more active handlers so I suppose to each his or her
own.
One bizarre thing, well, bizarre for me--smile--is that one school over
there trains a guide dog to work with a married couple.
Either the guy takes the dog sometimes and the gal another, or they
walk,
the guy with the dog and the girl with her hand looped in the guys belt,
walking behind him, actually that one sounds sort of romantic to me
though
I don't know how efficient it is--smile.
The reason given is the supposed lack of space for two in quotes, big,
dogs.
I say in quotes because the Japanese guide dogs I met weren't really big
by
my standard and I like big labs and so on.
They were small mostly yellow labs, almost exclusively, and cute, maybe
fifty-five to sixty-five pounds.

Anyway, that was a propos of nothing, just that you mentioned a Japanese
lady with a guide dog--smile

Cordially,
