Subject: Governor's Proclamation declaring August 8-14 as National Assistance Dog Week in Nebraska

July 9, 2010

Good afternoon:

This email is to let you know that on August 11, 2010 at 10:30 a.m., Governor Dave Heineman will sign a proclamation declaring August 8 to 14, 2010 as National Assistance Dog Week in Nebraska. The proclamation signing will take place at 10:30 a.m. in the Warner Chamber of the Nebraska State Capitol. You are invited to attend and be a part of this event.

On her own initiative, Tonja Peterson-Wendt of Ashland contacted the Governor's Office about the possibility of Nebraska becoming a state that recognizes National Assistance Dog Week. She worked directly with the Governor's Office to develop a proclamation based on the information available at the following website:

        http://www.assistancedogweek.org/

National Assistance Dog Week was created in 2009 to recognize the many devoted hard-working assistance dogs helping individuals mitigate their disability-related limitations. In addition to honoring assistance dogs during their special week, one of the goals is to raise awareness about these very special and highly trained animals. This year National Assistance Dog Week is August 8-14.

Tonja asked me to email this announcement to everyone on Senator Sullivan's service dog mailing list. Feel free to forward to anyone you may know who would like to join Tonja Peterson-Wendt and her Assistance/Service Dog Luka for the proclamation signing. Tonja would also like to organize an additional Assistance Dog Public Awareness Event on August 11th and welcomes your suggestions and ideas. Although Tonja got the ball rolling on the proclamation, she wants everyone to feel welcome to become involved in planning, publicizing and participating in any additional events that take place on August 11. You may contact Tonja directly at: xotonja at hotmail.com

Again, please forward this email to any one who might be interested in attending the proclamation signing.

Thank you for your interest and support.
