[nagdu] EXTERNAL:Re: Guide dogs and airport security

Lyn,

That is too funny. Whee! It does help when people fall head over heels for
the guide dog, doesn't it? /grin/

The Velcro Poodle is very much against having anyone but me hold onto her
leash. And no touching! She's loosened up some as she's gotten older, and
has finally decided that having the groomer take her leash is acceptable, so
long as we follow the correct ritual when I hand her over. It took about a
year, but she will now let DD hold onto her leash, so long as he isn't
trying to do anything with her and as long as I remain in view and she knows
it is okay... She just within the past few months started going outside for
him when she needs to, which is great since I don't have to stagger out at 5
a.m. just to tell my dog it's okay to go out and potty. /smile/

I'll do some more specific training brush up before we fly solo again, in
the event I get security people who want to take the leash again ... But I
will also almost certainly refuse to hand it over! I'm no more comfortable
with that sort of thing than she is! From now on, I will be far more
willing to kick up a fuss at the first sign of trouble and improper requests
or actions on their part. No matter how tired and grubby I feel... /lol/
If I miss my connecting flight because of it, while my luggage with my
toothbrush and clean clothes and all goes on with out me... Well, that's a
fate worse than death, but I won't have to work to be in a really mean mood.
/grin/

Ah, well. We learn from these experiences, and then we can compare notes
and work together so that we and others may not have to deal with unexpected
and sometimes utterly weird hassles in the future.

Well, (shrug!) what I said about the gloves was what I was told. No
worries! Maybe they'll get "blind cooties" or something! LOL!

When Landon gets patted down, he thinks it is playtime and he'll wag and
wiggle and have a great time with the nice person who is giving him
attention! When I fly, I've lucked out with security TSA folk who LOVE
dogs. I realize that it can be different when you are a frequent flyer - not

once in a blue moon like me.
