That may work for stuff where the mass is evenly distriputed over the
surface area. Sure won't work for stuff like milk where it isn't 
To the person asking the question, can you use a cane if you're worried
about the strain on your dog?

I just use a large rolling suitecase.  I have hauled home up to 100
pounds 
of pet food in it before.
