What is a shadow ball? Yes, I have spent more than my share of time picking
up stuffing from the latest stuffed toy disaster. I've actually tried
explaining to Abby what I'm doing, not scolding her, just telling her. It
worked on the stuffed balls with ropes through them that we use to play Tug
of War because she is not chewing up the ball this time- ball #3.
Hey, gotta go- If you are on the board of directors call tonight, we may get
to meet by sound/grin/.

Cathryn,

It's our Daisy dog who loves to destructo stuffed toys. I have a big batch
of wadding and squeakers to use to make new ones, but I don't seem to have
the seamstress genes to actually get more made. /smile/ She just goes nuts
over a squeaky toy, then destroys it, leaving trails of toy innards all over
the house.

Mitzi just loves her shadow balls and her soccer ball. Her soccer balls get
pretty ratty, but at least they last! So do her squeaky shadow balls.
/smile/ I figure kicking a ball around for her when I can't see it -- which
is becoming more and more of the time -- is good for me somehow. /smile/

Hello All,

Abby is finally asleep now I think. I found an old favorite toy of hers - a
sheepskin covered toy that used to have a squeaker inside it and had a large
well chewed hole. Ever since training, when her puppy raiser family brought
in her favorite puppy proof sheepskin covered guerilla toy dubbed "Monkey
Baby-Mommy", Abby has had a thing for monkeys.(I think they weaned her much
too soon, and the "monkey" became substitute comfort and security- but dog
psychology really isn't my field.) Anyway, we have to have at least one
"monkey" available to sleep with, get on planes with etc. This ripped one
was in my sewing basket, and I decided to fix it. Abby and I seem to have an
understanding. One of her favorite games is "Kill the Squeaker". I rescue
the squeakers and repair the toys. Abby then carries the toy around, sleeps
and eats with it, teases me with it, chews it, but stops trying to remove
the squeaker. Obviously threading needles is not my "strong suit" so I found
a thick shoe lace from a back pack, punched holes in the toy bone with a
kitchen knife, and laced up the hole. I try to save old squeakers and noise
makers from her toys. I found a squeaker and a noise maker that sounds like
a very excited or angry monkey up in a tree having a fit. I put them both
inside the toy before I laced it up and knotted it tightly. The good news
is that Abby is fascinated by the monkey sounds and loves her new "monkey"
toy. The bad news is that because Abby loves her new monkey toy, I will
probably be hearing loud monkey noises for many nights to come. Oh well, she
works so hard for me, handles the grid lock stress in the District, and is
good sport even when she would rather be playing with her monkeys.
Meanwhile, there is more than one way to go to Africa! /smile/

Yours for safe traveling with a few laughs on the way -

Cathryn (& Abby)
