[nagdu] guide dogs

When I got my first dog, I used to give piano lessons in private homes. I
had a friend that I loved dearly and had been asked to teach her children. I
brought my dog, and she wanted me to live him either in the basement or
outside. I was young and impressionable and did what she asked me to do. But
I hated every second of it. Soon, it turned into her not wanting me to bring
the dog to her home at all. I went along, still hating every minute of it.

When I got my second dog 6 years later, I promised myself that no one would
determine where I could or could not take my dog. I don't have Rusty any
more, but during our four years of work, I held firm to that decision. This
decision of where a dog can and cannot go belongs solely to me. And yes,
there were times that I didn't take him, but it was my decision.

Jennifer, in this life, you'll always have people who both agree or disagree
with what you want. It will be up to you to determine your future--not the
thoughts of anyone else. I'm not saying to disregard other people's
thoughts. But what I am saying is to be a proactive thinker and be willing
to stand up for your decisions--even of family, friens, or otherwhise don't
agree. Some things you decided may have to be re-thought again, but at
least, you'll feel empowered because you chose that path and can choose
others.
