[nagdu] Amount of walking

OMG! As my sight was fading and I started learning to use the cane to find
light poles and stuff, I did a bit of little old lady whacking myself before
I figured out I might want to try a different tactic. I only whack nice
people, though, so they're very forgiving about it all and always offer to
help me find what I was looking for. Why does that make it more
embarrassing? /grin/

Hi Joy
That is funny. I have this happen fairly often. In Vancouver we have a lot
of push button cross walks that beep. So as I've lost more sight I have
taken to swinging the cane around to hit the pole and go from there. I can
usually see the big blob but recently I find the pole is often softer than
it used to be. Ends up being a nice little old lady or something. I stopped
swinging so hard and now just give the pole, or people, a light tap.

Oh Tami,

I really wish that we lived closer to each other. You really make me laugh.
I think that, if you can't laugh at your \self and the silly things that you
do that life just isn't worth it. If life is so serious that you take
yourself that seriously then something is wrong. The other day I was working
with an O&M instructor on a corner that is unusually large and very rounded.
I was attempting to work my way to the grassy area at the edge so that I was
properly lined up to cross that busy street and line up correctly for the
cross walk when my cane touched this thing I didn't remember seeing before.
I was rather intent I making sure that I remembered how to do this, when a
man said, "that's me". I just said "sorry, I was just checking out land
marks and didn't remember that one being there before. He said that that was
pretty funny and went to cross the street. I just started laughing as did
the instructor.
