Julie,

Didn't think of it that way...  You could be right, either way.  I do hope
it's the first assumption you're right about, though!  Would hate for it to
be that the cops figure the blind guy shouldn't have been crossing the
street with his black dog in the first place...  Sigh.  Unfortunately, it's
not beyond the realm of possibility.

In this case, we can only give it a bit more time and wait and see.  Then
figure out what to do about it if They (with a capital T) do the wrong
thing....

Going to shower hugs and kisses on my black dog now.  /smile/

This is kinda morbid, but the police might be waiting to see if the man 
lives or the extent of his injuries.  With that information they might be 
able to charge the driver with more severe crimes.

Or the police might just be dilly-dallying, waiting for the media coverage 
to subside and letting the driver off.
