The ones we get from Helen Keller or Catholic Charities here or where ever you got the starter cane from which I originally did, was way to short for me, when Lori Stayer who is the wife of our Chapter President David Stayer who is blind, Lori is not told me that my cane was way to short, it should measure for the tip of my nose to the floor mine wasn't even meeting my shoulder, so I got a telescope cane which I find break very easily now use a collapsible one from ILA or from now own using http://www.atozadaptiveaidz.com/canes.html<about:blank>
David Wermuth one of the NFB Chapter President's in Florida started his own business, so I would rather solicit an NFB member then one of the other 2 if possible and I give him free advertisement on my newsletter and my website under references. as well as myblingspot.org, NFB.org and NAGDU.
If you haven't read my newsletter or been to my website it is under resources.

Thanks jules, I think I would like to try that type of cane as sometimes the
elastic collapsible types are a bit clumsy now that I have grown into this
blind life of mine. I would imagine the telescopic cane would be a little
easier to stow. Thanks for the input.

I'm not Marion, but I can answer your question.
My telescopic cane is the one I almost always use when I don't take Monty.
I really love it! It is six pieces that start out small at the tip and
gradually get a bit bigger as they reach the handle. When you open the cane
you give it a good tug and a twist so the pieces grip each other. To
collapse it I just put my thumb over the end and give it a jab downward.
I've tried the type of cane with the elastic cord. That one feels much
heavier and wobbly. I tried tightening the cord but it didn't help much.
The telescopic canes will collapse occasionally when you don't want them to,
but only if you are going long distances or catch the end pretty good on
something. Adding the twist when you open it virtually eliminates the auto
collapse feature! *smile*
