My telescopic cane lost it's cap too.  And yes, I have a fix that is better 
than the original.  Get the plastic caps that go over the end of aluminum 
lawn furniture.   they are a rubbery sort of plastic.  They come in a few 
different colors, are packaged four to a box and cost something in the 
neighborhood of $2.  I found them at a hardware store.  If I can buy them 
here in the middle of nowhere you should  easily be able to find them in 
more civilized locations! *smile*
