[nagdu] major dilemma

Bernadetta, I really do feel for you.
First off, I have had a dog with lympho carcinoma, and my former husband had
two Seeing Eye dogs who had the same. The first we went with chemotherapy;
it was not successful and we needed to put him down. The second, my former
husband decided not to treat. Those are terribly high costs with the odds,
even though you deeply love your dog.
If you were to elect to have the surgery and the dog moved in with your
mother, it would probably adjust to the change. Dogs mostly do get over that
kind of changes if they know they are loved. My last dog I thought would
just die of a broken heart when I had to give him to another family. He
adjusted very rapidly.
Visit with your school and see if they have graduates wo have had this
experience. There have been many dogs have canhcer. They might have good
advice. I suspect it was difficult for your vet to tell you the dog's
chances, especially since he is your first dog.
I hope this help, and know I have been visited by this sort of pain.
Cindy
