I say go for the color you're going to be happy with the most.  If it's 
purple I think you could wear black, gray, brown, navy, burgundy and any of 
the classic dark neutral colors.  I'd avoid yellow and orange though.

If you go with the burgundy, I do think it would be a bit more neutral than 
the purple.  The purple isn't loud though.

I've had harnesses in royal blue, red, burgundy, teel and black.  I wear 
whatever and haven't really ever given it much thought.  No one has ever 
said anything about colors clashing or anything of the sort.  I did get 
asked once if I had a new dog when I switched harnesses on Monty. LOL

Perhaps a good old fashioned coin toss would solve your logarithm dilemma?
