    Funny you should mention those tree patches and such.  I've known my dog 
to occasionally hop up onto one of those square planters to fertilize the 
contents, something I never taught her.  Seems that Miss Payton generalizes 
that, since I taught her to move off either to the grass, or the gutter 
where there is no grass, she made the conclusion that said planter was 
appropriate and preferable to the curb lane since after all, it does contain 
soil and plant life.

Indeed, I too keep a short leash, use the side streets if the urge will 
hold, and spaces between parked cars certainly come in handy.
