Julie J's post nudged me to write my own review, which I've been meaning
to do.
I've used a Dremel tool to grind my dogs' nails for about 13 years now.
The original one is starting to wear out, so I bought a new one from
Amazon. It cost about $21.
It has 4 AA batteries, which I think will be better than the old
rechargeable battery. It is light, even with 4 batteries in it. The
grinding rod is much shorter than the old one, maybe about 1 inch of
sandpaper plus another inch of shaft. I am finding it harder to maneuver
the short piece exactly where I want it, and have managed to grind my
fingers a few times, which was not very nice. But I haven't hurt the dog,
and I'm learning quickly how not to catch myself. The grinding surface is
coarser than the old one. It makes a rougher surface on the nail, but
seems to go faster. I can order finer sandpaper, but I'll try the rough
stuff for a bit. Overall, I'm reasonably happy with it.
Amazon also had the Oster nail grinder. I decided to stick with the
Dremel, since I've been satisfied with my old one. Also, the Oster has a
"nail guard", and I wasn't sure if I would be able to grind the nails to
the shortness and angle that I think is safest for escalator work. If
anyone has the Oster, I'd be real interested to hear what you think about
it.
